About NAA-STS

The North American Associates of the STS forum (NAA-STS) marks a new chapter in North America’s contribution to the global dialogue on science and technology. It builds upon the foundation of the American Associates of the STS forum (AA-STS), established in 2011 to support U.S. participation in the STS forum and raise awareness of its mission to advance science and technology for the benefit of all humankind.

In 2023, conversations began about expanding the mission of AA-STS to more fully reflect the participation of Canada. At the October 2024 Board meeting, the AA-STS Directors formally agreed to expand its activities to Canada and Mexico, and to adopt the name North American Associates of the STS forum (NAA-STS). With the official transformation completed in January 2025, following the issuance of the certificate of amendment, the organization now engages leaders across North America in advancing the global objectives of the STS forum.

This evolution reflects both a strategic commitment and a sense of urgency: the belief that North America’s collective expertise, leadership, and collaboration are essential to addressing the world’s most pressing challenges. By fostering regional dialogue and cross-border engagement, NAA-STS strengthens the STS forum’s capacity to convene thought leaders from science, technology, policy, academia, and business to shape a sustainable and equitable future.

The inaugural NAA-STS meeting on May 13, 2025, brings together its newly established Advisory Board, Board of Directors, and a community of distinguished supporters. This gathering is not only a celebration of our expanded mission—it is a strategic beginning. It sets the stage for deepened regional collaboration, new models of engagement, and strengthened contributions from North America to the global STS forum community.
